​​Musical Education and Performance

Karen Rock is a graduate of The Hartt School at the University of Hartford, where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music Education. While studying at Hartt, Karen trained in piano under Dr. Paul Rutman and served as President of the Women's Choir under the direction of Dr. Pamela Perry.

 

A dedicated vocalist from an early age, Karen began singing in school and church choirs at eleven years old. As a teenager, she earned the St. Cecelia Award from the Royal School of Church Music. Today, she continues her active choral journey as a singer with the West Hartford Women's Chorale and Camerata, an audition-only chamber choir.

Public School Career and Awards

Karen began her public school teaching career in 1987, bringing music education to elementary, middle, and high school students over a multi-decade tenure. Her instructional scope included general music, choral music, and instrumental music.

• Hartford Courant Feature (2000): Featured in the Northeast magazine section of the Hartford Courant in the article "Gospel Truths" written by Cindy Austin Brown.

• Connecticut Bloomer Award (2001): Received recognition for her distinguished work directing the Teens of Praise Gospel Choir at Windsor High School.

Private Music Studio

After retiring from public school teaching in 2021, Karen transitioned to teaching full-time in her private studio. Operating out of her West Hartford home, she provides personalized, comprehensive piano and vocal instruction, drawing on decades of pedagogical experience to nurture musicianship in students of all levels.
